about

Centered on WW1 trenches from conception, its lyrics are culled from propaganda posters and MacBeth speeches. The latter sitting as both prediction and a post mortem driving us to the next war. Initially it was to be full of contrasting bombast in the middle sections, it now has a more restrained emotional focus, treating MacBeth as eulogy, beckoning recognition of the horror to set against the cleanliness/orderliness/conformity of the propaganda posters. Music marching to war, witches’ voices soaring skyward, fate giving both what they ask for without missing a beat. - James

lyrics

For a charm of powerful trouble
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble
Double double toil and trouble
Fire burn and caldron bubble
Cool it with a baboon’s blood
Then the charm is firm and good

The happy man today
Is the man at the front
Your courage your cheerfulness
Your resolution
Will bring us victory

Destroy this mad brute
It is far better
To face the bullets
Than to be killed
At home by a bomb

Double double toil and trouble
Fire burn and caldron bubble
Fillet of a fenny snake
In the caldron boil and bake

Eye of newt and toe of frog
Wool of bat and tongue of dog
Adder’s fork and blind-worm’s sting
Lizard’s leg and howler’s wing

Rally round the flag
Every fit man wanted
This simple faith
Has made America great

Out damn’d spot
Out I say
One two why then tis time to do it
Hell is murky fie my lord fie
A soldier and afeard
What need we fear who knows it
When none can call us to accompt
Yet who would have thought the old man
To have had so much blood in him

about

Nraakors Iowa City, Iowa

Nraakors is the brainchild of James Kasper, Joseph Norman, and Gigi Macabre. Their music includes aspects of grunge, prog, noise rock, thrash metal, jazz fusion, folk, neoclassical, and free improv. The result is a bit like the composers; weird, a little roughhewn, somewhat sentimental, and equal parts sardonic and sincere. ... more
